Outgrown shared hosting? Get your own server for $25 a month, not $48

When your app needs its own stack, shared hosting runs out of room, and a well-known cloud charges almost twice as much for the same memory. Here is the difference.

Room to build

Today: Shared hosting gives you cPanel and a home directory, not a server. No Docker, no custom services, no root

With Tremhost: Full root on your own KVM server: any panel, any stack, your own firewall rules

Dedicated CPU

Today: DigitalOcean's Basic droplets run on shared CPU. Its dedicated-CPU droplet with 4 vCPUs and 8 GiB is $84 a month

With Tremhost: Every Tremhost VPS has dedicated CPU cores. KVM 4 has six of them and 8 GB RAM for $25 a month

What it costs

Today: DigitalOcean's Basic droplet with 8 GiB RAM is $48 a month, on shared CPU

With Tremhost: KVM 4 with 8 GB RAM, 6 cores and 120 GB NVMe is $25 a month: $276 a year less

If it goes down

Today: Hoping the server stays up

With Tremhost: 99.9% uptime in a written SLA, with service credits if we miss it

Sources checked 2 November 2026: DigitalOcean Droplet pricing, Basic plan with 8 GiB RAM and 4 vCPUs at $48.00 a month (digitalocean.com); CPU-Optimized plan with 8 GiB and 4 dedicated vCPUs at $84.00 a month (same page); DigitalOcean, “Basic Droplets are shared CPU” (docs.digitalocean.com). DigitalOcean lists memory in GiB and Tremhost in GB. Saving: ($48 − $25) × 12 = $276.

Dedicated means the cores are yours

Shared hosting is a good fit for websites. When you need your own software, ports and settings, a KVM VPS gives you a separate virtual machine.

VPS questions, answered straight

Still unsure? Ask us on WhatsApp or open a ticket.

Is this VPS managed or unmanaged?

Unmanaged. You get full root and configure the server yourself. If you would rather have cPanel/WHM installed and looked after, see Managed cPanel VPS.

I'm not a sysadmin. Can I still use a VPS?

Honest answer: an unmanaged VPS expects you to be comfortable on the Linux command line, or willing to learn. If that isn't you, start with web hosting or a managed cPanel VPS. We would rather match you to the right plan than sell you the wrong one.

How fast is setup?

Your VPS is provisioned automatically after payment, usually within a few minutes. Your root login and IP address arrive by email.

Are the CPU cores dedicated?

Yes. The CPU cores in your plan are dedicated to your server and not shared with other customers, and the RAM is reserved for it.

Where are the servers?

In five data centres: Johannesburg (South Africa), New York and Miami (USA), Limburg (Germany) and Roubaix (France). Choose the location when you order. For users in Southern Africa, Johannesburg is the closest.

Which operating systems can I install?

Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, Debian, CentOS or Rocky Linux. Pick one when you order, and reinstall another from the VPS panel at any time.

Are backups included?

Backups are an add-on you can choose when you order. Snapshots in the VPS panel are included on every plan.

Can I upgrade later without losing my data?

Yes. Upgrades happen in place, so your data stays put. No migration or reinstall.

Do I get full root access?

Yes. Full, unrestricted root on every plan. Install any package, kernel module, panel or service you want.

Is there a control panel for the VPS itself?

Yes. Every customer gets a VPS panel to reboot, reinstall, open a VNC console, view bandwidth graphs and take snapshots. This is separate from any hosting panel you install on the server.

Why NVMe?

NVMe is the current storage standard and is faster than SATA SSDs. Databases, WordPress and anything that reads and writes a lot respond more quickly.

What uptime do you commit to?

99.9% a month for VPS hosting, with service credits if we miss it. The details are in our service level agreement.

How do I pay?

Monthly, or yearly with two months free on KVM 1 to 6, in US dollars by EcoCash, InnBucks, ZimSwitch, Omari, Visa, Mastercard, Bitcoin, Tron or Litecoin.

Your own server for about 49 cents a day

KVM 1 is $15 a month: 2 cores, 2 GB RAM, 40 GB NVMe and full root, built automatically after you pay.
